Optimism in PDAC2019 Success

The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference draws to a close and 25,843 attendees from more than 130 countries head back home. It impresses me that such a sense of bouyancy, optimism and confidence is emanating from the minerals sector. Quite surprising considering the ongoing adversity, well known challenges and global uncertainties that the industry faces.

So what's driving this optimism?

  • Firstly, the aura surrounding PDAC 2019, which is now established - and dwarfs similar global events - as the world's most prestigious annual event for mineral exploration and mining. Huge kudos to the organizers, promotors and reputation builders who made the industry proud. Hosting an event of this size is a real challenge.

  • Secondly, the knock-on effect of the officially launched Canadian Minerals and Metals Plan (CMMP) that positions Canada globally as the leading mining nation. The sense of positivity and optimism displayed in this document underlines the deep committment that the Canadian government has for its mining and minerals industries. An example of excellence for other countries to follow.

  • Thirdly, the recent renewal of the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC), extended for a further five years demonstrates further the committment to unleash mineral exploration and maintain a strong project pipeline that underpins the economic importance of mining in Canada. I'm interested in mineral exploration and involved with diamond core drilling projects in particular, which are sure to be boosted by new investments.

Outgoing President, Glenn Mullan, said that "the mineral exploration and mining industry is experiencing a renaissance and renewed sense of confidence, highlighting its resilience once more," as he handed over the reins to Felix Lee, the incoming 37th President.

I can't help feeling that the effect of these main drivers of PDAC2019 success has rubbed off on the global industry as a whole, bathing it in an optimistic glow. Superb effort - great achievement!

There's every reason to be optimistic.
